jimmyle- you say you live in Carmel Valley – you are not going to get much closer parking wise. Take a cab or if you want to go for a scenic walk, go up the coast along Torrey Pines state beach.
Everyone else and their mother will want to park at Torrey Pines State beach, I don’t think that’s the answer unless you get their at 5am
