“It’s obvious the road we are heading down, and obviously it won’t be a quick fix. Those who are educated understand that. Only the uneducated will wake up in May 2009 and be dismayed that the country is still in trouble. So what? Obama is idealistic. As long as he tries his best with all the resources he has to make the changes he talked about, I’ll be satisfied.”
Sadly, Marion, the vast majority of this country is uneducated, and they have NO idea what’s about to hit them. Fewer than half read newspapers on a daily basis, and only ten percent hold passports. These people will be utterly and completely blindsided, primarily due to the propaganda spooned to them by the mainstream media on what is now a daily basis (“We will escape a recession”, “the American economy is fundamentally strong”, and other b.s.) These people don’t think Obama is being “idealistic”; they think he will ACTUALLY deliver what he is promising. They are desperate for an escape.
Do you really think that the average American — making 30K a year, paying $6/gallon for gas, $8 for a carton of eggs, seeing that our troops are still in Iraq a year after Obama takes office and possibly heading to Iran — is going to be satisfied if Obama “tries his best”? I assure you they will not. Human nature will prevail, and expecting a fix and having raised their expectations, they will turn ugly.
You will be alone in your satisfaction, Marion. And that will doom Obama to a one-term presidency. And sadly, he will be the last African-American president this country will ever see.
That’s the reality.
And out of curiosity, other than national health care, what “changes”, specifically, are you expecting from Obama?
