It’s not just the fee, although $150 or so isn’t anything to sneeze at. It’s mostly the inconvenience and time requirement. I need to get the permit (1-3 hours I heard, DMV wait style), baby sit the plumbers + inspection, and go 24 hours without gas. Considering I’m paid by the hour right now it’s just painful.
As long as the risk is very low then I think it’ll be okay to skip a permit.
