But it happens all the time. 15 years ago I was on a super-crunch project… everyone else on the project was married with kids. So they all had good excuses why they couldn’t work weekends or pull all nighters. So they ended up working 50 hours a week where I was talked into working 70-80 hours per week. My boss told me, as he left for the weekend to go to soccer games with his kids, that life wasn’t fair. I ended up quiting because I was so burnt out. I had to point out to him that I would remain single and kid free if I never left work and had a chance to date and meet anyone. His jaw dropped because that never occurred to him.
I guess this is my long winded way of saying – I agree with you that it’s not fair. But it’s also common. I’m sorry you’re being put through this.
