I’m not sure that the presence of Sears is necessarily an indicator of a downscale mall. South Coast Plaza has a Sears and it’s one of the most upscale malls in SoCal. But I definitely agree that if Westfield UTC is going to try to move upmarket they definitely need to get rid of lower end stores like Sears.
I would be surprised if this project gets off the ground as well. Especially the condo project. I wonder who thinks its a good idea to combine commercial and residential property like this. I personally would hate to live that close to a mall — I can just imagine having to fight holiday shopping crowds to get home.
