I think it’s a real minefield out there in the rental market right now. I’ve been monitoring the Rancho Bernardo area, mostly condos since that’s close to my range, and it is amazing how many of these “rental condos” are in complexes that I know for a fact just converted in the past two years.
The biggest red flag to me is when the rental brags about the new granite countertops and stainless steel appliances… that’s when I’m sure it’s a flopped flip. Stuck flippers are never safe to rent from…
I would say a rental which was last purchased at or before 2002 would tend to be safe. Definitely take SD Realtor up on the offer– I know I will.
