I moved back to the bay area after starting a new job at a tech company after being laid off from a contract gig back east. Before that, I was making 100k in San Diego for a telco. Bay area job pays almost twice as good and fun environment with great benefits. Cost of living to rent is about the same as San Diego so it amazes me why socal companies pay peanut wages with high living costs? Never understood this. Anyways, I don’t plan to buy in SV just too darn expensive! Maybe if I was lucky to work for a startup and get pre-IPO options and hit it big, perhaps.
