I just bought my wife an unlocked Nokia e71 off Amazon. New Nokia smartphones come with free lifetime navigation powered by Ovi Maps (which allow car or walking navigation, walking directions take advantage of shortcuts through parks, stairways etc). Best part of all, you don’t even need a data plan. I have T-Mobile Pay as You Go plan. It does this by working 100% from satellites and not the cell network. The downside is it is a bit slower to lock on to your location relying only on satellites. If you have a data plan it will utilize the cell towers to locate you more quickly. It seems to work well on slow-moderate speed city streets, but can get confused if you’re traveling fast on a freeway and the signal is weak.
