I have to say I don’t necessarily agree with all the generalizations about California or San Diego. I am 41, I’ve probably spent a year or more in 15 different neighborhoods in my adult life. This December in Encinitas, at my neighborhood in Quail Gardens, I got Christmas carol’ed by children for the first time in my life. Neighbors here watch out for each other, bring lost dogs home, say Hi all the time, and have neighborhood parties and other events all the time. Its just the best neighborhood I’ve ever lived in, and I’ve lived in a lot.
So there are pockets where that friendly vibe still lives. Maybe less and less frequently, but they do still exist, right here in San Diego.
