I have an idea. Why don’t you become a firefighter, Brian? It’s such a sweet job, practically a sinecure, high pay, absolutely insane benefits. And all you have to do is go into burning buildings once in a while.
One of my friends is in the firefighter training program right now. There are a lot more applicants than jobs in firefighting, so even if Brian wanted to become one there’s a good chance he wouldn’t be able to. I think people rightly realize that it is one of the last remaining secure positions available to ordinary people, hence the high demand for the jobs.
I had a fireman friend years ago that described the job as “absolutely the best job in the world 99% of the time, and absolutely the worst job in the world the rest.”
