I have a Sunpentown 13,000 BTU portable AC unit with just exhaust hose. It intakes air from the sides of the unit (from the room) and recirculates it.
While I wouldn’t call it useless, it is not nearly as good as a window mount unit, especially if you are trying to cool an entire room down. I’ve tried using it in just my bedroom in 90 degree heat and it’s not able to cool the room down at all. You basically have to be ~5 ft or less in front of it to feel any of the cold air.
Not sure how much better it would be if I had a dual hose unit. But if you’re able to swing it a window mount AC is much much better than a portable AC unit.
