I don’t know how long it took him to remove and re-install the timer; I was away from home. I was able to to stop by during my lunch break and chatted with the tech guy briefly, but then I had to run back to work. I found out about the $288 only when I got home at night. I think the whole process took him at least 3 hours, if not longer, but I suspect that most of the time was devoted to removing the old heater and installing the new one.
