I can only say for me personally, since I went down that road in the ’90’s and bought a place in Carmel Valley. I put 20% down. Then the market tanked. Work slowed to a crawl and I struggled for years. Lost the equity. That money would’ve been nice to have. Felt real stupid then. Got a second job and held on, miraculously. Luckily I survived and the market turned around and I sold when I could – prematurely, but w/a small profit.
