I agree with rankandfile. My great-grandparents homesteaded here from Denmark. My grandfather spoke Danish as his first language as did most of the transplanted community. However, the community felt that they should all speak English. After that, they stopped having church services in Danish (switched to English) and tried to speak English at home.
