Hey mixxalot, at least you are getting call backs and lunches
Just to get a feel for the market I recently sent out 4 resumes to job shops (I’m a software engineer and prefer to work on a contract basis)
In the past, all 4 of these resumes would have gotten call backs and most of the job shops would have asked me to come in and fill out some forms – not that they had jobs for me but they were maintaining a database of resumes for future jobs – back in the mid- to late-90’s there were enough jobs available that I didn’t even bother filling out the job shops’ forms – if they weren’t talking about a specific job when they called me back on my resume I politely declined to come in
As of tomorrow it will have been 3 full weeks since I sent out my resumes and, so far, I have received one standardized e-mail response and no phone calls
I’m not actively looking for a job but this little exercise doesn’t encourage me about the current state of San Diego’s economy
