Certain areas of the San Diego Unified School District have been designated Optional Areas. If you reside in one of these areas, you will have a choice of two or more schools to attend. Once a choice is made, the school of choice remains the school of attendance for the duration of the student’s attendance at that level (elementary, middle/junior high or senior high).
(emphasis added)
The way I read it, students have to reapply at each level for your school, i.e. apply for middle school and apply again for high school. A student’s school is guaranteed as long as they are already enrolled at a particular school.
Currently, for school year 10/11, the optional HS choice exists. You have no guarantee that this choice will be in place several school years from now, when your kids are ready for HS. For instance, what if LJ SFR’s crater in price in the future and families begin moving in much closer to LJ High than Southpointe Complex is (UC is closest HS to it)? SDUSD reserves the right to remove the choice on the “north of SR-52” complexes, or ANY previous “optional attendance area” to any school which becomes impacted.
Any Piggs work for SDUSD and can help here?? Or lived in the 92037 annexation north of the former Ardath Rd (now SR-52) during the 70’s thru 90’s? Did your (now adult) child attend and graduate from UC? Thanks for any help.
