grepper, if this is the case, I don’t see how these soon-to-be-ex-officials are going to be able to make restitution if they’re in prison. Won’t all their $$ (if they still have any . . . lol) be spent on defense lawyers and appeals? I guess you know that the civil case the AG filed will be stayed pending the outcome of the criminal case.
On second thought, I’d kinda rather see judgments against them as it would hurt their spouses/families that they quit-claimed and left in trust all their assets to (knowing trouble was imminent) after giving themselves those huge salaries and bonuses. These would be considered “fraudulent transfers” in the event of a civil judgment.
Brings me back to the SDCERS Retirement Board and three wayward SD County judges once upon a time. Those individuals were all DECIMATED by attorneys fees for their defense. One judge was able to later escape by the skin of his teeth, because he had the foresight to conveniently divorce (and settle with) his spouse, also a SD judge, when he saw trouble coming. She subsequently retired and had a home in HI he could take refuge in when it was all over. (btw, just so you don’t worry too much about these poor dumb-like-a-fox fools, they’re all still eligible for their pensions :=}
Sounds like Sr. Cooley is trying to “show up” and/or “undo” the AG incumbent here. Political?? Of course. This is just “par for the course” in an election year. Guess we’ll all “watch and learn” here.
