There are legitimate reasons to outsource, especially nowadays. Cost structures, labor relations, service levels, strategic change, etc.
Corporate does not necessarily equate to ‘better’ or ‘more efficient’ though. It’s case by case. In fact, in many documented cases, corporate outsourcing has reduced service levels and increased costs.
It really depends on the details, and this piece is mostly fluff.
Also, let’s definitely stop comparing California and Georgia. California is a great state.

I’ve lived in several states – the shortest tenure was in Georgia. I moved there from Pennsylvania, to take a job. Thank goodness I had trouble selling my house in Pennsylvania because 3 months later I was fleeing in horror.
Georgia looks nice on the outside – I was living in Atlanta – supposedly a nice place, full of educated professionals. Oh my goodness was I in for a shock. Open, blatent racism. Super high crime even in the nice neighborhoods. And the locals lack of openness to anyone not from the south. This Yankee scrambled back to Philly, quitting my job, and fleeing in terror.
In the 3 months I lived there I had my car broken into twice. After the first time I talked to coworkers who advised me to never lock my car – because that results in broken windows (as it did.) So the second time they didn’t break my window – just pulled out the maps out of the glove box and stole my cd player. (Which had just been replaced after the first break in.) I also had things stolen off my front porch, and mail went missing.
This was the late nineties – things may have changed. After my first break in I did some research and learned that Atlanta was in the top 5 cities for violent crime and murder. So much for southern hospitality.
Not enough money in the world to make me move there again. I don’t have the same reaction to WA state or PA… the other non-Cali states I’ve lived in.
