Gandalf: Dude. Stop name calling; you’re better than that. Calling a guy a dick because you disagree with him is exactly the same sort of stuff you argued AGAINST on other threads and in other posts.
Yeah, you’re right about old line “real” Republicans bemoaning the fate of the GOP. I’m one of them. The McCain/Palin card appalls me, as does the clearly mercenary thinking behind it. We’ve lost our way, and of that there is no doubt. However, that doesn’t automatically make Obama the answer and for anyone to represent that he is the magic bullet in this equation shows the same lack of credulity that allows conservatives to swallow Sarah Palin as anything other than a divisive, ignorant heretic. And, yes, I did mean the word “heretic”.
Aecetia makes the excellent point that we need to watch out for Big Goverment, in whatever guise it approaches. Old Ronny Raygun was correct when he opined about the scariest thing you could hear was, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help”.
FDR did not lead us out of the wilderness of the Great Depression and there are arguments that his policies in many ways were as badly misguided as Hoover’s. Obama does not have the chops, either, but not out of any lack of ability. Rather, the twin dangers he represents are lack of experience and the evangelical belief that true leftists have in the transformative power of Big Government.
You cannot legislate good behavior and you cannot tax a country into prosperity.
