fwiw – I prefer the San Diego beach culture to the Jersey shore beach culture. But I thought the OP left out a comparison point of a distinct, different culture.
Give me La Jolla, watching surfers, seeing my kids boogie boarding, dealing with the kelp and flies and not minding… But if you can add in a fudgie wudgie guy, I’d be in heaven.
