For you and others like you who believe homosexuality is something that just happens, when does someone become gay? Is there a "gay gene? If so, what causes it? When does the transformation take place? Is it when we're 2? 4? Or are we born this way?
I can assure you that I was indeed born this way — the way that my God chose to make me. I was aware of what I would later come to understand as my sexuality by the first grade. It wasn't until 4th or 5th grade when I first started to hear the word "homo" used — and used in a obviously derogative fashion. Fortunately by this point I was secure in who I was and didn't really give a rat's ass what the other boys thought. Well, maybe the cute ones…
The whole argument over Nature Vs. Nurture has much more to do with personality and self-awareness than biology. If someone who is wired to be gay or lesbian learns first that society (and perhaps whatever God they are exposed to) will shun them BEFORE they are aware of their predetermined sexuality, this introduces an incredibly destructive internal conflict. This can manifest itself anywhere from depression all the way through suicide. And often at a very, very young age.
I haven't accepted the theory that the 14-year-old boy who is in a lot of pain because he feels he is gay or leads a gay lifestyle was born this way.
You are so very, very wrong Marion. And I sincerely hope that your two boys don't ever have to confront this within themselves. Or confront their mother.
