One of the physical symptoms that can happen with dementia is the mind forgets some of the involuntary/subconscious things… Including the swallow reflex. It’s not unusual for folks with dementia to get pneumonia from aspirated fluid (spit) that they didn’t swallow. That’s just one of the possible physical side effects.
