Interesting. Must be specific to Sweetwater Union High. From what I heard, there are districts in California (particularly the “elite” ones; not sure about San Dieguito or Poway) that do things very differently. Some districts actually do random residency checks, they send inspectors in the evenings to verify that students live where they say they live … anyone found to be faking residence is promptly expelled.

I heard they do that at San Dieguito.
It’s not random at all in San Dieguito.
When you register your kid (especially as Sage Canyon or East Ocean in Carmel Valley), you need to bring various forms of id’s with your address on it, including not limited to utility bills with your name, photo id’s etc.
It gets worse. Last time I checked @ Sage your kid entering K has a preliminary meeting with the educators before school starts. Apparently, what they do is do an assessment on what they think about the kid, strength/weaknesses and put your kid into groups, depending on any “special needs” (if any). Talk about pigeon holing at a young age….
Sounds like school systems outside of philly, main line area. Two classes for each grade and they drop you in one based on a test. Unfortunately, some people test better than others but that doesnt speak to learning capabilities.
