The other advantage of water based reactors is that they stop generating heat when they loose water. The water has two purposes. To make the heat useful – as a working fluid, and as a nuclear moderator – to slow down the neutrons so that they can react. If the neutrons from uranium travel too fast, it will not support a continuing chain reaction.
