So do “Japanese” automakers.
True story from the late 80’s. I’d bought my very first brand-new car. A bottom of the line honda civic hatchback. A coworker, coincidentally had bought a brand new Ford Escort that same weekend. We’d paid pretty much the same – both less than $9k.
He made a snarky comment about how at least he’d bought American. I pointed out that my Honda wasn’t Japanese – it was Canadian – and showed him the engine block stamped with ‘Honda of Canada’. I then made him pop his hood and showed him his “American” car was made in Mexico.
