I don’t understand why you assume the concept of a finite world is “liberal.”
Speaking specifically of Peak Oil, that is most definitely not a partisan concept, and the most vocal proponents are otherwise very politically diverse. The late Matt Simmons, considered (rightly or wrongly) to have been the loudest voice for Peak Oil, was quite conservative.
I know many conservatives who “get it” with regards to resource limitations. These same conservatives often tell me that “facts have a conservative bias.”
