Democrats and liberals are terrified of Palin. Constant attempt to package her as a joke in an attempt to discredit her and her message. Same tactic as used on Reagan and Bush.
If her conservative politics were not a threat, the opposition would not give her the time of day. Quite the opposite is happening.
