CA Renter, I think you and davelj are speaking at cross-purposes. He is hypothesizing that the majority of women who want kids also want to be supported financially by the father.
When you speak about how it’s justified for women to get support, because child-rearing is expensive, you’re actually arguing in support of his hypothesis.
Yes. You beat me to it.
Okay, so then why do you think women should shoulder the entire responsibility of raising and financially supporting all the children? Are men supposed to do anything, anymore?
Like jp said: this sort of attitude is making men more and more disposable over time. I’m not seeing why any woman would want to commit her greatest assets (youth and beauty) to a single man who doesn’t want to give anything back.
If men don’t want to get married, don’t want to have children, and don’t want to spend money on women; exactly why would a woman commit herself to a monogamous relationship with him — again, especially during the 10-15 years that she has the greatest opportunity of finding a man who DOES want to get married and have kids (assuming that’s what many women are looking for)?
