Commuting over one hour each way to work 4-5 days per week for a parent (especially BOTH parents in a family) is a horrible way to raise a family unless that family has reliable local relatives available at all hours to pick up/drop off their kids or care for them themselves.
This is just my opinion which is based upon the many available housing alternatives out there for families with children.
