Bugs – it’s not just money. I could certainly “afford” more. But that will cut into what I like to set aside for savings (more money to put down on a house besides what I got already) Cut into play money for the little things I indulge in, a couple of dinners out or a weekend trip, which isn’t major. I cut corners and although liberal in many ways, quite financially conservative.
Paying more for rent is taking away from the ultimate goal, which is getting the house I really want, and cutting into lifestyle, if you can call it that, since I’m not a major consumer. But everything is relative. I don’t need the latest and greatest, but still have some nice things, just not abusive or excessive. If I want to send my mom back East flowers for Mother’s Day, I don’t want to have to think twice about that. That’s what I mean.
Everyone has a certain budget, but like most Piggs, we try to stay close to within our means and not overextend. I could, but I would not be comfortable, maybe have to cut corners somewhere else, or dip into savings, etc. Not worth it for a rental.
