BTW, who is going to pay for her international travel?
She reminds me of a young girl I overheard as a TA at UCSD discussing her summer plans: “I can’t get a job paying more than $12/hr so I’m just going to travel around Europe all summer.”
If her parents don’t want to pony up she can just teach English or work “black” jobs for money overseas. It is easy to get an under-the-table job as a waiter/waitress/bartender as a native English speaker in all sorts of countries. Living as a tourist in South America or Asia can be remarkably cheap.
I don’t see that as feeling “entitled”, hell she’s just making the most of her youth. Good on her. Our country would be a better place if more young people did that; everywhere I visit is overrun with young Aussies, Kiwis, Euros, and Israelis seeing the world, having fun, learning a bit about other cultures and taking the odd job here or there for money. Nothing wrong with that!
