[quote=briansd1]You make a great point CA renter. It’s worth trying to guide change in the right direction. But it’s not possible to stop change.
Certain change is so inexorable that it cannot be stopped.
This is mainly an issue of demographics. The Hispanification of the American West and, California in particular, is unstoppable.
We have the choice of embracing the Hispanic population and help them succeed. Throwing roadblocks in their way and forcing them to assimilate while not legalizing them only elicits a negative adverse reaction and impoverish us all.
Many people feel that this “Hispanification of the American West and, California in particular” isn’t unstoppable, nor is it something that needs to be embraced. While a variety of cultures might be embraced, when one particular culture overwhelms a country over a short period of time, problems are bound to occur. If that new “majority” culture encourages behavior that is deemed to be agressive or threatening toward the existing culture, you’re going to get a culture war. That is the only thing that is guaranteed here.
Illegal immigration is **illegal** for some very good reasons. We cannot have unchecked immigration from poor countries where a disproportionate number of these immigrants engage in violent/criminal activity. We cannot have unchecked immigration if the existing taxpayers are expected to pay for the immigrants’ (and their childrens’) educations, housing, physical and social infrastructure, food, legal expenses (including prison expenses), etc. There is a limit to what we can afford to give to everyone from outside of our own country (some would argue we can’t even take of our own citizens).
