I suggest getting rid of carpet. LOL.
Great idea. Already done that. But you still need a vacuum. Actually hard surfaces show dust even more then than carpet.
I bought at cheap shopvac from Walmart (about $40) and it’s not very good. Weak sucking power, and the hard surface attachment is cheap and scratches.
The Miele canister looks nice. Lots of positive reviews, but expensive!
We have a Miele upright, and love it. We were thinking about getting the canister for upstairs, as it’s easier to get under the beds, etc. (I vacuum a lot).
FWIW, I have a vacuum fetish (as Mr. CAR says), and have had the Dyson, Oreck, Miele, and a host of other vacuums. Based on my experience with these vacuums (the name brands mentioned here cleaned better than any of the others, so won’t rate the others), Oreck cleans carpets better than the Dyson, but the Dyson has the BEST above-floor cleaning (best suction through the hose). The Miele has the best floor cleaning of all, but I think the Dyson still had better suction through the hose. The Miele is my favorite because the floor cleaning is the best, and it has the above-floor cleaning (hose), which the Oreck doesn’t – it has a separate canister vacuum w/hose (small, and not nearly as effective as a full-size vacuum). Just my 2 cents. 🙂
