I’ll say what nobody else is saying.
Chula Vista is jokingly called Chula Juana. The image is that of a lower-class Hispanic community with a culture of Tijuana. True or false, that image is sticking. And because of that, a great number of folks would rather commute to Temecula than even think of Chula Vista.
What is off the consumer’s evoked set, doesn’t exist. Chula Vista has a lot of marketing to do. Maybe a change of name would be a good start.
As pri_dk so eloquently remarked, I’m going to continue to keep this “classy.”
brian, longtime San Diegans have jokingly referred to MANY areas of SD County as various (fitting or not) “names,” including MM.
Not only is your remark about Chula Vista factually false, it is racist. That may have been the public “perception” of Chula Vista in the 80’s and prior but it was even further from the truth back then. Not only do all races co-exist in Chula Vista (as they do in ALL areas of the county), many thousands of persons of “Hispanic” origin (1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or full) who reside in Chula Vista and elsewhere in the county no doubt have been far more successful in life than other “select” races.
In other words, you can’t always determine someone’s “race” by their looks or surname, you can’t judge quality of construction by doing a “drive-by” or looking at internet photo(s) and you can’t judge the quality of life in an area you’ve never gotten out of your car in. If you try to, you’re showing your incompetence.
I’ll just say what nobody else wants to admit. Dollar for dollar, you get a lot more bang for your housing buck in South County, including many big lots and great schools.
Of course, Chula Vista’s environment is not worse than the other areas we are discussing here (I think better) but its location is where it is and it may not be advantageous for many “tech” workers to live in. However, if you don’t have to drive to Sorrento Mesa/Valley or above every day, South County is definitely worth considering for a FT buyer as well as move-up/luxury buyers :=]
