I’ve told him to avoid sugar/food rushes. As you said “the pancreas releases insulin which triggers the body’s cells to pull the glucose out of your blood and store it for future use”.
So even as people diet and work out, their periodic sugar rushes cause energy to be stored away, thus defeating their efforts.[/quote]
increased amount of insulin in the system leads to two things, increase in appetite and weight gain.
the problem is much more significant in overweight/obese folks because there is some insulin resistance in a lot of them, and these guys often have to produce more insulin to digest the same food as someone of normal size.
this is one main reason why it is so hard to lose weight. because of the excess weight, you are overproducing an essential hormone that in excess tend to increase your weight.
the typical “food coma” that people experience after eating high sugar/high carb/large meals really help explain this. immediately after such high sugar load, the body is cranking up the insulin production to meet the need to take care of all of these extra sugar in the bloodstream. if there is some insulin resistance due to excess weight, then the pancreas kick into overdrive and try to flood your system with insulin in an attempt to metabolize the sugar. that flood finally overwhelm the sugar load, but in the process also end up causing a crash of sugar to below normal range.
you feel fatigued and dizzy as the result. solution? time for another snicker’s bar to help pick you up.
