Northern European jobless rates are broadly comparable to the US, some lower, some higher, but not dramatically different. US: 5.9%
Switzerland: 3.1% Norway: 3.7% Denmark: 4.0% Germany: 4.9% Sweden: 7.2% Netherlands: 8.0% Belgium: 8.6% France: 10.2%
And at least they have a decent welfare system to support the unemployed, as well as an inexpensive or free university system to allow them educational opportunities.
