Moving is expensive so make sure you factor that cost in. Moving goes far beyond the physical move, dont forget to include changing all your accounts and utilities, disruption in your work/personal lives etc. You may find that you are better off staying put.
Look at rent near where you work. What area of town do you work in? Living near work will dramatically increase the free time you have available and your quality of life.
Look for properties less than 5 years old if you can find them. A/C and other appliances run better and the insulation is better as well.
You should have plenty of choices in RB. Since you have plenty of time, look on Craigslist and the newspaper and, at your leisure, visit properties and become knowlegeable about what you can get for the money. I believe you’ll get a better deal renting from an individual homeowner rather than in rental complex or through a property manager. However, those good deals are harder to come by.

Depends on where you work. My wife and I used to live in Carlsbad where rents would be about $1800 /mo right now I’d guess. We had to pay trash, water, and sewer there and then drive for almost an hour each way to and from work.
Now we’re in Carmel Valley and rent for just over $2000 (3 br, 2.5 bath, 2 car attached) (a larger and nicer neighbors place is renting for $2300 so I’d guess the rent’s fair for the area), but we don’t pay Water/Trash/Sewer (HOA pays this), so that saves us $80. Also, we figured that we save about $200 a month in gas because we’re so close to work (12 minutes with traffic, 10 mins without), so you get what you pay for as far as location goes. I know $2000 sounds like alot more, but when you count in gas, and commute time, that can make the difference up quickly.
