Women are cleaner than men, on average, but are more likely to have roommate conflicts and end up moving out, etc.

Men are pigs, but are less likely to have conflicts serious enough to move out.

I had good and bad roommates when I was a student. It’s hard to tell in advance who is going to be a PITA. I suggest staying away from anal-retentive types who take life too seriously. Look for easy-going types who are relaxed and are not afraid to laugh at themselves. They may not be the cleanest people in the world, but I’d take a dirty roommate over a conflictive one!
