If you can tether, maybe you can get rid of your home high-speed internet. That’s the only way I could justify paying that much. Of course, if it’s someone else’s money, then go ahead and spend it. 🙂

Brian, I’m not sure if GOOG will get anything out of the Droid, but they get more people using their service and it’s another piece of the cloud puzzle they’re putting together. The more people search, the better their targeted ads becomes. Which will yield more ads revenue.

It doesn’t look like Google It doesn’t look like Google Voice will integrated with the mobile phone. You will still need a Verizon phone # and use your Google Voice # separately. The Google software will however run on the ‘Droid device.
Of course, it does an especially good job running Google software. Apple barred Google Voice software from the iPhone, perhaps because it enabled cut-rate phone calling and threatened AT&T’s profits. There’s no such limitation on the Droid; Google Voice works fine, and you can program the phone to use it for all your calls. There’s also a very good feature that lets you run Google searches with voice commands, like “How do I get to Cape Cod?’

The two finger zoom capability won’t be available on most phones here in the U.S., namely because of patent issues with Apple.

Ad sales. tight integration to google apps from the phone. They are getting zilch from licensing the O/S though, unlike Windows Mobile which I’m sure is a non-trivial amount.
That’s why this platform is so compelling for phone manufacturers. No licensing fee on the O/S.
Anyone want to guess how much licensing Windows Mobile or some other O/S is per phone?

We need MaBell monopoly again. Instead of spending $6Billion a year on advertising , they would have spent the money on cell towers, etc. When’s the last time MaBell line went down? Power loss happens, but not the phone line thanks to geniuses at Ma Bell running the show who cranked out real patents daily. All gone now.
