Now that we've cleared that up, I live in the area half-way between those two parks on Calle Cristobal, and have owned here since 1998. I've never seen a single homeless person but migrants come and go, mostly minding their own business and laying low. The 7-11 on Cam. Ruiz is where they gather and where you can witness daily the law-biding 'mericans' contractor trucks pull up to hire them as work crews (yes even now).
I often jog alone through the canyons as do many other people (including women) and aside from the deer, snakes, coyotes, birds, and chupacabra I don't see much going on.
In the 9 years I've been here there was one home invasion robbery where the suspects were caught and charged with murder only because the cop speeding after them broadsided a woman in her car and she died (apparently the robbers didn't have Paris Hilton's lawyer).
Every other month or so a drag racer wraps himself around a tree, at one point Calle Cristobal had more road deaths than any other SD road. Whenever this happens the neighbors gather 'round and roast marshmallows in the fiery aftermath of Darwinian elimination while we thank the stars if only the driver was killed. Then for months afterwards people (presumably loved ones of the deceased) decorate the latest death-tree with flowers.
Anyhow, that's the 'hood in the nutshell. It's only dangerous if you are a street racer, a tree, a goat, or don't like marshmallows.
