John: I agree with Aecetia. Putin is former KGB, and is dedicated to returning Russia to it’s former glory. Russia’s intimidation has now moved beyond saber rattling into direct intervention.

The Europeans are entirely too dependent on Russian fuel and afraid of a resurgent “bear” in their backyard to do much of anything.

God love McCain, but I don’t think he has much of solution beyond sending the USAF in to try and interdict the Russians as they move their big iron into Georgia.

And, make no mistake, Putin has the stones to play a high-speed game of chicken with us and NATO. This the potential to get real ugly and spread into a wider war.
