I think you guys are underestimating exactly how much the electorate likes lightweights. The young lightweight usually seems to win, so long as their hair looks good. The electorate likes it when a candidate exudes irrational optimism and expresses themself in vague generalities. The electorate does not like to get bogged down in detail or substantiative issues. They don’t want to hear about 10 years from now; they want to hear about today.
A candidate just about can’t overestimate the level of shortsightedness and stupidity of the electorate. That’s why we get the candidates we get.
Obama can lose, but I think he’ll have to go out of his way to do it. He’s got good hair.
