There is a fine line between protecting one’s interests and invasion of others’ privacy, and I think this sits on that line. While it is useful to know who you are dealing with in some circumstances, it gives access to information that some may not be able to filter or interpret correctly. For example, how many John Smiths born in 1974 are there? Is someone with a traffic offense really a criminal?

Anyway, best to be smart and careful with all people, not just ones with records.
