There are a few who do not get emotionally involved at all. These are generally only a**holes by accident, because by definition they aren’t evil, only socially inept.
If you type “unrepentant prick” into the Pigg search engine you will find only me describing myself as such on various occasions over the years. Socially inept? Perhaps… all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding, of course. I’d probably stick to socially deviant (well, by the “average person’s” standard, anyway). But, you say tomato, I say toma(h)to.
I didn’t actually specify which one I thought you were, and that’s definitely not the one I’d choose π
I do appreciate that you admit being a prick, though. That’s worlds better than a prick who thinks he’s a saint.

RenParticipantJust an observation, based on 20 years in BBS and web forums:
The majority of people do get emotionally involved in forum debates, to some extent. Just because they don’t know someone or can’t see them doesn’t mean that person’s words can’t have an effect, for good or ill. Most are decent, but plenty of nasty people fall into this category.

There are more than a few who do get emotionally involved, pretend not to, and enjoy making and watching others squirm. These are the worst, and most deserving of the bad karma they’re racking up. If you believe in that kind of thing.

RenParticipant
Across the street they have some nice townhomes that are selling between 300 and 400k. I wish I could afford one. I have been watching them for over a year and the prices do not go down.
I dont know how the heck people can buy these places. Thanks to all who shared some advice on here.
Look at it this way. There are three types of people who bought/buy those townhomes – 1) those who overextended themselves and are likely to end up in foreclosure; 2) those who can afford it but for whom a relatively common occurance (job loss, major plumbing issue, accident, whatever) would be financially devastating, and may very well end up in foreclosure; and 3) those who can easily afford it and could handle a catastrophe or two. Maybe they qualified to buy a $500k home but wisely chose a $350k one instead.
Which are you?
Personally, I wouldn’t even remotely consider buying any property unless it had decent positive cash flow as a rental (a few hundred at least). If that means putting a lot more down, and I don’t have that much to put down, then in my mind I can’t afford that property. I should be able to live under a bridge and eat at a shelter and still have someone else help finance my retirement.
