HappsParticipant
I’m sure the wealthier counties know the value of education, but it’s odd why they were so receptive to a huge tax increase on themselves instead of a large sales tax increase for a few years, which would have impacted them less.
HappsParticipantWhat I find interesting and unusual is that wealthier coastal counties voted for Prop 30 (in essence raising taxes on their earned income) whereas poorer rural counties voted against it.

HappsParticipantInteresting comment about online reviews because they’ve discouraged me from visiting most furniture stores in San Diego county.
HappsParticipantI don’t have a smartphone, but it looks like AT&T DSL and Cox have a stronghold on the high speed internet marketplace in San Diego.
HappsParticipantI agree that fencing and no trespassing signs are a good start. However, if someone really wanted to get on the property, they could still easily cut parts of the smooth wire or chain link fence to gain access. Making an effort to control/block access is one step. The second step is satisfying the department in having the property be stabilized 24/7/365, as the inspector wishes.
HappsParticipantI already have. I didn’t get much help.
HappsParticipant
Your best bet is to go with Cox’s high speed internet and when you are done after 4 months disconnect it and then when you come back 8 months later do a self install for $20.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I read that Cox doesn’t offer a “vacation” or seasonal plan in California.
HappsParticipant
How about a teak door?
Now that would be sweet!
I don’t think the HOA would allow it. I don’t need a lot of fancy ornamentation or glass work on the door. I’ve noticed that some plain looking (not much glass and a simple look) wood doors are $400 and some are $800, even from the same company. Does a higher price equal a better, longer lasting door? I’m thinking about wood again because I found out that if you apply a high quality sealer or varnish, it might last longer and they make 2 step wood cleaning products. I’m still puzzled why one manufacturer would charge double for the same looking wood door, unless one is a wood veneer and not solid wood.
HappsParticipant
I had done some good amount of research on this while replacing the Aluminium patio door and windows in my home.
Anlin and Brothers were the 2 brands that i narrowed down on and finally went with Anlin from http://www.ClearConceptsSD.com as their quote for Anlin windows was the lowest.
Sit at home, take the dimensions, call 3-4 different places for quote.
In the end, I decided to purchase dual pane aluminum windows from this company and will be getting them installed in a couple weeks. I spent a lot time researching windows and thought this company was the best value.
HappsParticipantI thought the original video had a good message too. I think it takes discipline and a strong mind/will power to live below your means or within your needs in North County.
HappsParticipantI mentioned this video in another post a few months ago on here about the topic of retiring/moving to Costa Rica. Moving/Retiring to a foreign country is not necessarily a panacea or paradise. Food for thought.
HappsParticipantAccording to newspaper articles, there’s a lot of opposition to the project on S. Sierra Ave. I can’t imagine why they would choose that site to locate it.

HappsParticipantI appreciate your insightful replies. A house down the street in my 16 year old tract house community (where every house looks identical) was just sold and the new owner hired a construction company to completely remodel/redo the interior. This past week has been the demolition phase, whereby the construction company truck has hauled pretty much everything away from carpet, interior doors, walls, toilets, counter tops, etc away. The inside of the house has been completely gutted and looks like a war zone right now and I couldn’t imagine anyone living there during the process.
Remodeling a 16 year old house right after purchase and before move-in is the best time to complete this task to minimize inconvenience and hassle, but for those who bought 8-16 years ago and now must decide between remodeling vs moving it’s more stressful. It’s difficult to imagine how you would do complete a remodel of all new flooring, new kitchen with appliances, new bathrooms, new windows, and new paint with a house full of furniture and “stuff” that could get stolen.
