It was funny to see some new listings that came on 4/30 had wording such as “if you hurry you might be able to take tax credit”… too bad I was out of town and couldn’t even see the property.
As the end of 4/30 drew near, I felt relieved because now I do not have to *rush* to buy anything anymore. The deal is finally over and there is no urgency now. That is quite a relief.
Now, only if they would raise the interest rates a bit and cool down this market – I think the only way to solve the inventory problem, is to make it obvious that the housing prices won’t go up 10% a year…

1stimebuyParticipantI for certain have overbid comfortably 15K ~ 18K over asking on some decent properties knowing that I might get that 18K from gov’t. But I still haven’t won anything for my 6 month house search.
The more I think about it, tax credit sounds more like another subsidy to the banks and sellers, and NOT for the buyers. (!!!!) Now that the houses are 30~50K more than it was last year, I wonder how everyone will play after this tax credit expires… I can’t wait for it to expire, and yet also afraid buying house in san diego is now completely out of reach again.
All I have now is this stupid cash in CD that collects near 0% interest, and high cost rentals. It’s frustrating π

1stimebuyParticipantI also hope this rebate/credit ends – I’ll welcome anything to reduce the competition π
For example, there was a house ranged 399K~445K. I call listing agent and ask if he would entertain my offer if I submit it at 420K – he flat out says no.
(house was freaking 1200 sqft!)So I think OK, this home search is going nowhere, and since my apt lease expired I call the office to discuss options for renewal, and the office manager says she is also looking for a house and it’s difficult to find, and there are 3 other tenants who’s stuck in the same situation as me…
lol
