I am/have been mostly here to ride out the bubble and use the threads as entertainment and instigation to learn. I like to think I have contributed something useful to fellow piggs.
There is a path of least resistance quasi- social component for me since my jobsite/office and home have been one and the same for the most part and fairly remote too.
Of course, the content of the blog, the posters and Rich’s tolerance for occasional non-conformity, have everything to do with my choice of this site instead of somewhere else. These factors have enabled some valuable personal and professional growth and this continues. I have benefited from a small amount of networking and there probably is still some potential for that. There are better ways of course.May 14, 2009 at 12:22 PM #399227NotCrankyParticipantI am/have been mostly here to ride out the bubble and use the threads as entertainment and instigation to learn. The same scammers who are as responsible as the liar buyers in decimating the only asset I really had – my house.
I figured I better start learning how these schemers operate, so at least next time I won’t be such a fool.
I would say 80%+ of the piggs on this board fall into the category of schemers IMO.
For the Love of Money…that’s what drives these schemers 24/7/365.[/quote]
I think that it would be accurate to say that bitterness and spite are weaknesses and that those who are bitter and spiteful are often fools or at the very least foolish.
I came to this site after several clients asked me about stuff they had read here.
Some was insightful and some was stupid. For example, the assumption that land scarcity would push prices higher in the short term was a little stupid.
Semi-racist comments referring to south-asians as “sanjay” were stupid.
Discussions about making sure that purchases fell within a single deviation of the historical purchase-to-income coefficient was insightful.I am really glad to hear all the conversations though. Even those I strongly disagree with help to broaden my understanding of the market and the actors in it. I just wish we had more happy hours. I really like talking shop over beer. I would like to see josh drink more though. He always seems a touch intense. It would be nice to see him relax.

May 14, 2009 at 1:23 PM #399005aldanteParticipantBuyers **chose** to overpay. This cannot be emphasized enough. The fact that they had the govt and the REIC pumping them full of BS certainly added to the problem, but people like myself (not to mention the tireless bloggers like Rich who were putting in lots of time and effort for free) were trying to **warn** others about the bubble.
ALmost my exact senario except I am not a chick and not married. I was divorced and chose not to over pay.
But alas…..I love paying for others mortgage through my taxs….it gives me that oh so helpful feeling…………………..(pukeing)
