Several of these rattlesnakes come out in the open each year around our place. Lots of less venomous snakes too. This one was about a 4 footer. So far only the dog has been bitten. I think he knows to avoid them now. He just barks at them…which is helpful.

Yesterday Ed returned. Within moments he was locked onto something… in full hunt-and-kill mode.
Bincos (always handy now) swung into place. Same MO. Same lightening strike into vegetation. And out comes a terrified BIRD clamped in Ed’s death spear. God, this guy is good but obviously showing no respect for his feathered brethren.
As Edward prepared for the final swallow-move, the mangled bird managed to seize a moment, escape and fly away.
Ed, ever the chill master, turned and strolled toward the pool for a quick bill cleaning and sip of water. Hydration and hygiene are apparently important for killing stuff.
And then he waited and… listened.

…swear-word wildlife authorMarch 16, 2010 at 8:29 PM #526666CDMA ENGParticipantI thought they were supposed to spear with that bill. Maybe its just small things.
Ok. Here is my wildlife story that actual involves SDDuuuudes dearly departed dogs. I am housing sitting one time for SDDuuuude’s vacation and I come home after there has been fireworks. Dogs have freaked… Both of them are cannine Houdinni’s and have gotten out. I’m beserk because I have just lost the family pets (this is about the zillionith time they’d escaped but I am determine that they won’t disappear forever on my watch). So I jump in the truck and cruising the neighborhood calling out there names. At the end end block and on the darkside of a house (its night time) I see Brea’s bushy tail and cat like stance. Thank god… Found one at least… So I start calling here name from the the truck and whistling and she starts running right up to the truck… Like I said… Bushy tail and cat like walk… I keep calling and it keeps coming and at about 10 feet it come out into the street light… SHIT! Skunk! Gas to the pedal and bounce on the devil!!!!
Never found the dogs that night and two different nieghbors brought them home.
Thats my urban wildlife story…
