Yeah, because the sun goes away.
Whatever happened to drinking heavily?
There’s plenty of that in Alaska. Especially in the winter.

February 5, 2010 at 9:17 AM #509612jpinpbParticipantI think I’d like it in the summer w/the 20 some hours of sunlight. But I probably wouldn’t last a winter there.

It’ kind of fun! People go out and run around at 10 o’clock at night like the just got out of work. Gym’s are full at 11 PM… Ppl are out on the basket ball court… You go to bed at midnight and sleep till five AM and feel completely rested. It scary how much sunlight affects you up there.
Winters? Just the other way! Ugghhh!
However Scaredycat I think you will reconsider AK the first time you almost loose your life in the front yard of your home when a Cow or Bull Moose try to stamp you to death when you only want to get to your car.
That is why everyone carries a gun in AK. The chances of nature killing you at your door step is VERY real there.
I saw a bicyclest nearly ran down because he spooked a bull moose 1/4 mile out of downtown Anchorage.
Still a fun place to visit though!
Also you can’t ecape to AK. AK’s very existence is dependent on the lower 48. Gas, most food, and other supplies arrive there from somewhere else on a boat or 747. Which also make AK extremely pricy to live.
