I think our society is going to have to restructure back to the old ways… As parents age, they move in with their children. The family takes care of each other.
I don’t see this is a negative. It has value for the adult children and the grandchildren. As some of you know – I’m living it. My in-laws live in a small “casita” granny flat in our backyard. Their expenses are lower because of it, and my kids learn that family takes care of family and get quality Grandma time.
And the way American’s, in general, are NOT saving for retirement… I suspect a lot of people will not be retiring (and therefore still paying in taxes).
It’s ironic they put Florida in the group. They’ve actively marketed for seniors to move to Florida – best estate tax laws (state level), best services… It’s a growth industry for the state…

All else being equal, adding heads, as the only one variable, will add to the tax base, even if the new heads only pay $1 in extra taxes.
Other variables may or may not change.

How do you propose to control or regulate whom can and can’t immigrate? What is your criteria? How would you enforce it?
[/quote]That will have to play itself out on a try-as-we-go basis.
It’s better to start early than late because if we wait too late, the events will dictate the solution.
As you said, it will take generations.

I think that’s true. People will have to change their ways.
I could live with my dad whom I see several times per week. I even park my SUV in his garage since I don’t have enough parking downtown. But it would be a little weird for a grown man to live with his parents. That might be different if I were married with children.
If everyone is doing it, then it becomes the new normal.
